300 Word Summery (Focus Group)

The Focus Group is main function of the construction of the main task. It allows us to hear what others had to say about our ideas and their views of music in general, which lead to how this worked with our focus group of youths.

Our focus group is youths between the ages of 17-19, so this would be the age in which young people would be going out partying more, having adventures and finding themselves. Our video should symbolise this interpretation of youth culture, involving parties, relationships and though bright colours. We also found that our audience liked the idea of using emojis into our work as they often associated with youth.

Our audiences opinion is important to the creation of our music video as stated before they are our target audience so their opinion matters. Without our focus group we could not start to construct our music video ideas together, as we found it important to get opinions from our focus group before even starting to compare our ideas together. It was important to actually get the opinions from the age range of 17-19 year old and not from an younger or older generation who may not fully understand youth culture today, and younger ones it may be hard to ask them certain questions since they are underage.

Focus Group Session

Our focus group had a major impact on the construction of our music video. Since we asked students who were in our age range of 16-19 their opinions  really contributed to how we are going to create a realistic youth themed video.
We also wanted to make sure that our target audience were comfortable with some of the themes we wanted to portray in the video. These themes included smoking and drinking.
Our focus group also gave a an clear indication of what types of songs we could consider for the video, as seen in the video a lot of people liked Pop or Indie so we then took from that to choose a song that was one of those two genres.
We also have considered the idea of using the Vlogging as we had a lot of positive response to using that. However we are going to take into consideration what some of advice we was given about making sure the flogging does not look to amateur like or is not shaky (We could film the vlogging on a phones and use a selfie stick)

Questionaire

300 Word Summery

The Primary research towards our final music video consisted of the information we received from our questionnaires. Me,Sinead and Mary found that more people who answered our questionnaire where the majority female than male (78.12% female and 21.88% male).  We could have had more males answer as the music video is not gendered specific or target towards one gender more.
The age range we found more people whoa answered where between the ages of 16-19, which is the target audience for our video, this also told us that the majority of people in our primary research were students.

We then asked questions of what type of videos people liked and would they prefer a story or just pure entertainment. We found that most people liked just a video on pure entertainment, but having a story line also received a lot of feedback. However the group decided that there would not be a stroyline as the video is based purely on a party. A positive part of our research is that over 80% of the people we asked about if drugs or achohol would offend them, they said No. So this gave us the go ahead to put theses parts into our video; this also linked in with a majority percentage of the people we asked like a video that has a serious message. So this could be used to send across the message or maybe alcohol or drug abuse. However we only be having people of the legal age to be drinking and smoking in our video. If anyone is 17, we will not have them pretending to be ringing or doing anything which would be classed as illegal under the law. However no one will actually be drinking any alcohol, instead the bottles and cups will be filled with water. We may have people who actually smoke to have a smoke in our video, but these people will be of the correct legal age and outside, this will then not cause a risk of fire or someone burning themselves.

Finally, our research concluded that we would conduct a fast paced music video, that involved serious issues of youth that are not often touché upon by other artists as drugs is often a taboo issues to discuss. Although we are focusing more on the stereotypical side of youth, it would still be important to get out the message that not everyone who goes to parties is there to get drunk or hook up. I think it would be interesting to explore different characters at a party.
